This is a guide to some basic printer troubleshooting that you can do yourself that will often resolve issues you are having with your printer.
Printer Connection
- If you lost connection to your printer we recommend first trying the following steps
- Close the print software
- some software run in the background and will need to be closed from the system tray.
- Power the printer off then back on
- restart your computer
- Make sure your windows or mac updates are current
- Make sure your print software updates are current
- Check your printer connection again
- If that did not resolve it proceed to the steps below
- Check you connection cables
- if you have a bad cable the printer will not be able to communicate to the computer. If you have additional cables laying around try swapping them to see if that resolves the issue
- If you are connected via a wireless network or your printer is wired to the network
- Check your modem status
- if you have internet on other devices you are likely ok
- check you router status.
- If you are not getting internet on other devices or other devices will not communicate with the network either try power cycling your router
- If that does not resolve the issue please contact your internet provider or in house IT support for your network
- If you are not getting internet on other devices or other devices will not communicate with the network either try power cycling your router
- Check your modem status
- If the steps above did not work remove the printer and the re-add it. This may need to be done both from the printer utility in your computer as well as in the print software
- If that also did not resolve the issue we recommend uninstalling and reinstalling the print software
- If any of the above does not resolve the connectivity issues please feel free to reach out and we would be happy to troubleshoot further with you
- Close the print software
Printer Stops Printing Jobs
- If you have a good connection to your printer but the print jobs are getting stuck and not producing an output please try the following steps
- First verify that you are printing to the correct printer and the correct printer port is selected.
- Next remove all jobs from the print queue. sometimes one failed print job can prevent the rest from printing. It may be necessary to restart your computer after doing this as well
- Power the printer off then back on
- Make sure your windows or mac updates are current
- Make sure your print software updates are current
- Try printing again
- If that did not resolve the issue we recommend uninstalling and reinstalling the print software
- restart your computer after reinstalling the program and then try printing again
