When setting the tool depth for the auto raster on your CNC router:

  • Using an auto tool depth setter feature (if available)- carefully hold the tip spring of the auto braille setter while the CNC lowers onto the height sensor. Do not let the spring compress fully when it is depressed onto the height sensor. The "sweet spot" is to allow the braille setter tip to SLIGHTLY depress to the "threshold" of where the pen tip would try to dispense a braille bead, but do not let it compress to where it would push a bead out of the pen tip. The "threshold" of where the bead is about to dispense out of the pen tip should give you the correct tool depth to correctly dispense braille beads consistently during the production run.
  • Manually setting the tool depth- When manually setting the tool depth, first try the same logic as described for the "auto depth" setup. When lowering the Z axis of the CNC, carefully hold the tip spring of the auto braille setter while lowering the Z axis. Do not let the auto raster tool tip compress. Allow the braille setter tip to SLIGHTLY depress to the "threshold" of where the pen tip tries to dispense a braille bead, but do not let it compress to where it would push a bead out of the pen tip. The "threshold" of where the bead is about to dispense out of the pen tip should give you the correct tool depth to correctly dispense braille beads consistently during the production run.
  • The drill depth for the braille holes should be set to 0.042".
  • The depth setting for the setting the braille beads into the drilled holes should be about 0.035". In some cases the setting can and may need to be adjusted +/- 0.002"-0.003" for optimal bead depth.
  • The tip flap of the auto raster tool can be VERY SLIGHTLY loosened in some cases to fine-tune the bead feed at the tip of the tool, to help prevent double-feeds or breaking beads in the tip of the auto braille setter.
